Windows 10: Can't access shared folders / can't sync offline files

I have PC and laptop. On both I'm logged on with Microsoft account.On PC I have shared several folders to my Microsoft account so laptop is able to access them and do Offline file sync.This worked fine for many years, but since December last year sync didn't work. I checked it today and noticed I'm not able to access shared files. If I try to open folder it asks for credentials where as I understand you can only type local account credentials, not Microsoft account. So I added share permissions to local user on all folders on PC and on laptop when I opened shared folders I entered local user

sync - where are offline files, folders disappear when offline?

I have sync set up, between 2 PCs, and made some 'always available offline' They are in the 'manage offline files' window., - but where are the offline files in explorer, when offline?

I could find them in "network" in the folder pane when connected, but when the connection is broken, the pc containing the shared files disappears from the network list!

How to I access offline files to edit them, and offline folders to save new files?
