I have windows 10, direct x12.

Cannot start some older games as I am missing d3dx9_30.dll

Try 'updating' DX with the DirectX Web Installer. This will install any 'missing' DX files.

Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

If the Web Installer shows a message to the effect your DX is up to date and does not install d3dx9_30.dll

look in Windows > System32 and sysWOW64 to see if there is a d3dx9_30.dll file.

If a d3dx9_30.dll file is there, it may be corrupt. Delete this file and run the Web Installer again.

- Alternatively download the full DirectX Redist (June 2010) installer package and reinstall DirectX.

(this installer overwrites all DX files. The Web Installer only installs missing files).

- Failing all of the above, copy and paste the d3dx9_30.dll to the game main foldler or sub-folder which

the games executable file ( .exe ) is in ( some games look in the games folder rather than Windows).

You're seeing this error, as because the DLL file d3dx9_30.dll which is required for starting the game is missing from your computer. Suggest you to try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if it works fine. To uninstall the game, press
Windows logo key + X, select Programs and Features. Now spot and click on the game under
Programs and Features and click Uninstall. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the game completely. Once you done, try to reinstall the game to see if it works fine.

Note: Uninstall the game will remove all the previously stored game data.
