Windows 10: Cannot remote into machines via the Remote Desktop App

As of no earlier than 2021-01-13 I can no longer remote into the various servers I work with via the Remote Desktop app in Windows 10. The process starts, a screen that has a message that reads "Configuring remote PC..." comes up and stays there for 1-3 minutes.


The whole Remote Desktop screen then disappears. The task bar will show that the app is still running, but you cannot click on this icon to get the screen back. You can use Alt-Tab to get to the screen; but then it has no information on it any longer, only shadowy areas where it appears that it would like to have PC definitions displayed. Over time, this app will consume more resources checked via Task Manager and cause the computer to slow down drastically. Killing the task is the only way to get the app to stop.


I have rebooted multiple times. I have tried remoting into multiple machines via multiple accounts. Nothing changes from what I have written above. I have been using this app to remote into these machines for some time, and so this came as a bit of a shock and has caused serious productivity issues I work remotely.


After some time trying to troubleshoot this and see if something is happening with my PC, the remote servers, or what-have-you, I decided to try to remote into these machines via the old "Remote Desktop Connection" application \windows\system32\mstsc.exe. I pointed this app to the server and the connection worked fine.


I checked my recent Windows Update history. An update was ran on 2021-01-13; this was an update titled:January 12, 2021—KB4598242 OS Builds 19041.746 and 19042.746. Given the timing, I am having a hard time dismissing this as a potential culprit.


So... does anyone else have a PC they cannot remote into using the Windows 10 Remote Desktop client, but that they can remote into using the older Remote Desktop Connection client?

I recently traded in my iphone for an android, and just realized that hippo remote is iphone only. I'm looking for a similar app for android so I can use it as a remote for my htpc. Any suggestions?

1. Are you using the Microsoft remote desktop app?
   

If you are using the Microsoft remote desktop app downloaded from
Microsoft store then, I suggest you to follow the steps to
fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.



If the issue still persists with the Microsoft remote desktop app, then you can contact the support team by going to the

link and scrolling down to the bottom and clicking on
Microsoft remote desktop support under the Publisher info.



However, if you are using the Remote desktop connection, which comes pre-installed with Windows 10, then I suggest you to please post your question in the
TechNet forum.

Remote Desktop

Okay guys need some help here before going crazy...
I am trying to setup a remote desktop connection and see exactly what the logged on user is looking at with out going through Windows Remote Desktop.

Since its local network I don't have any password or want to setup a password.

Any suggestions are appreciated
