  2. How do I run Chkdsk on bootup on non bootdrives?

If you want to run chkdsk on a specific drive after reboot then you're looking for the following reply after entering the command:

The type of the file system is NTFS.

    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be

checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

If there are multiple disk drives then some can run without a reboot.

For the computer that I'm currently using I typically run the deepest chkdsk scans.

    This is an example:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /b /v

The type of the file system is NTFS.

    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be

checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    Type: Y

    Reboot.

    The syntax for multiple drives is: chkdsk /b /v C: or chkdsk /b /v D: or chkdsk /b /v E:

Chkdsk /f gave "cannot lock current drive" "windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected"

This is an old thread, but if no one has found a resolution, try the following.

Boot system to Windows DVD/CD disk (could also be flash drive with same version and build of Windows installed on said system troubleshooting). Advance to Repair option, then select load command prompt.

    type: chkdsk <drive letter:> / f / r / x, then press enter

if error response depicts write protect or cannot lock drive, then try the following.

At the commend prompt, enter diskpart, then enter list volume

Observed the volume list. Identify the drive letter that associates with Windows installation.

In my case, it was the letter "J"

Exit dispart, the retry the chkdsk utility again.

Many times, users will try to run the chkdsk from the repair DVD and unknowingly direct the chkdsk to the wrong drive, thus echoing the error message.

  4. Cannot lock current drive, Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process

Chkdsk /f gave "cannot lock current drive" "windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected"

After having the error code 0xc000014 I followed a post from another user and got a friend to get an iso for Windows 10 and used the repair my computer option which I follow and it didn't work so I decided to try use the restet which it returned " the
drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again". Then I followed another post which used the command prompt which I inserted chkdsk and it returned [the image] with "failed to transfer logged message to the event log with status
50" at the end. Then I used "chkdsk /f" which it returned " the type of file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected. And now I'm here wondering what to do next? Thanks Reece.
