Windows 10: Can I upgrade from Windows 10 Pro for Workstations to Windows 11 Enterprise?

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 10 Pro for Workstations that is compatible with Windows 11 and also have a Windows 11 Enterprise ISO. Can I upgrade directly from Windows 10 Pro for Workstations to Windows 11 Enterprise or will I have to stay with the "for Workstations" version of Windows?

Microsoft to Introduce Windows 10 Pro for Workstation PCs

Microsoft is seemingly going to introduce another version of their Windows 10 operating system. After introducing Windows 10 S earlier in the year, followed by the "Chinafinitive" Windows 10 China Government Edition, the company is seemingly responding to specific market demands of professionals and enterprises. The new Windows 10 Pro for Workstation PCs (which was first leaked by Microsoft itself through an erroneous upload to the Insider Program) will apparently come in two variants, a standard variant, and the N variant, which is built to comply with EU regulations.

The new Windows 10 Pro for Workstation PCs will introduce ReFS, the successor to the tried and true NTFS file system. The new ReFS is designed for fault-tolerance and is optimized for handling large data volume, including auto-correcting capabilities and backwards-compatibility with NTFS. Additionally, Microsoft is baking in SMB Direct protocol file sharing in Windows 10 Pro for Workstation which allows for high throughput, low latency and low CPU utilization when accessing network shares. It will also introduce support for systems with up to four CPUs (up from Windows 10 and Windows 10 Pro dual CPU limit) and 6 TB of RAM.

Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Pro for Workstation failing during Windows 10 tool upgrade now option

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your concern as you are having difficulties in upgrading the PC from Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Pro Workstation. Windows 7 Enterprise is a higher edition. Windows 10 Enterprise would be its equivalent.

As per the upgrade paths, Windows 7 Enterprise will only go to 10 Education and Enterprise. Please refer the article for
Windows 10 upgrade paths.

Windows 10 Pro for Workstations is a new virtual edition of Windows, with unique support for server-grade hardware and designed to meet demanding needs of mission-critical and compute-intensive workloads.

The upgrade from Windows 10 Home or Pro (different price) to Windows 10 Pro for Workstations through Store. You
can’t perform clean installs of Windows 10 Pro for Workstations as it is a virtual edition. You must upgrade from Windows 10 Home/Pro.

Windows 10 Pro for Workstations is not a superset of Enterprise—they are on par with each other and Microsoft plans to provide the same features in it to customers running that edition. For those who don’t know, Windows 10 Enterprise is a volume license
client, available to organizations that deploy Windows 10 to hundreds or thousands of devices.

So, that’s how you can get Microsoft’s latest edition on your device. You won’t see any striking benefits on average machines. This is really for a specialized market where the hardware takes precedence. Everyday users and enthusiasts are best served
by existing editions such as Home and Pro. Windows 10 Pro, in particular, is advantageous because of its numerous built-in controls, especially for services like Windows Update.

Downgrade from Windows 10 Enterprise to Pro

Hello,

I need to downgrade from Windows 10 Enterprise to Windows 10 Pro.

1. I had windows 8.1 home and upgraded to windows 10 home, using the media creation tool 1809.
2. After windows 10 home installation , I went to Settings > Updates and Security > Activation > Go to Microsoft Store. Bought Windows 10 Pro, but instead of Install I did upgrade to workstation.

So now I have Windows 10 Enterprise and I can't activate it, which is normal, cause I bought windows 10 Pro and not Enterprise.

How can I downgrade it to Windows 10 Pro?
