  1. BSOD When Trying to Update to Legacy Firewire Driver

So I'm caught in a frustrating catch-22.I recently purchased a Firewire card to transfer some old DV tapes over firewire via the camcorder. Did this no problem. I'd like to keep the card attached for other projects involving the camcorder and other Firewire devices.Ever since installing the card, I've noticed that I'm unable to shut down my PC. It crashes and reverts to a reboot instead. It throws a "fatal hardware error" in Event Viewer.I saw on other forum posts that this problem could be caused by how recent Windows 10 versions handle Firewire cards, and that a possible solution could be to

    1394 (Firewire) Driver

After some consideration, I'm still at a loss to what the driver really is. In Win 7 there were 3 Firewire drivers listed. One was labeled Legacy the others were not. Windows did not install the Legacy driver by default, it had to be manually selected and installed. I don't remember the dates on them so I can't say what this driver really is. Not trying to be cantankerous, just trying to find out which one this really is (maybe no documentation available that really says what it is).

Did you turn off the one on the MB in BIOS?

  4. BSOD When Trying to Update to Legacy Firewire Driver

Unable to install IEEE 1394 legacy driver on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. Since when are you facing this issue?
    2. Have you recently made any changes on the device prior to this issue?
    3. Which version of Windows Operating system is running on your device?
    4. Is your computer connected to domain network?

This issue might be occurring possibly due to below mentioned reasons.

    1. It seems like you do not have the IEEE 1394 Host Controller plugged in properly, otherwise Windows would be able to detect it (and show "Unknown Device").
    2. Windows installed the wrong driver, thus it is appearing in a different name thus you can't use it.

What I would suggest is, download the IEEE 1394 Host Controller device from the manufacturer's website, and run the Setup file there. It should replace the wrongly installed driver.
