  1. Brand new desktop and laptop. Can I link the two together to share files and keep both...

I just purchased a brand new lap top and brand new desktop. Desktop has Windows Pro, Laptop has Windows home. I backed up my desktop to my old computer, great no problems. Now, if I back up my new laptop to my new desktop, will that effect the new desktop? Can I use both from that point on sharing files through OneDrive? Basically I want to use both computers interchangeably including emails. Is that something Windows does and or you can help me with? Can I synchronize the emails and files between the laptop and desktop going both ways?Rick

    :)

Buying a new laptop or desktop for gaming [help]

I want to buy either a new laptop or a new desktop for gaming. I want to run games smoothly and maybe even use it for some ps2 emulation. Could someone suggest either a laptop or desktop? I heard Alienware is expensive and over-rated. I was also told Sager laptops are good for gaming. I have about $1000-$1500 to spend on a new machine. Initially I was going to get a laptop but it seems like I would be able to get a more powerful desktop for the same price or less. Please advise. Please suggest a model/brand [desktop/laptop] that I could purchase because I don't think I know enough about computers to build one from scratch.

Desktop cannot access shared folders on new laptop over wi-fi

I just bought a new laptop and I have Network Discovery, File Sharing turned ON. I have Password protected sharing turned OFF. Laptop is connected to home Wi-fi as a Private network. Latest update to Windows 10 build 17763.914.

    Via File Explorer:

    • The laptop has no problem accessing shared folders on my office desktop.
    • On my desktop (build 18362.535), the laptop name is visible in the Network section, but I receive an error message when I select the laptop:
    Windows cannot access \\LAPTOPNAME

    Error code: 0x80070035

The network path was not found.

I have already set the Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, UPnP Device Host to Automatic (delayed start.) They are running.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Brand new desktop and laptop. Can I link the two together to share files and keep both...

    Desktop and Laptop lose sharing

The WiFi driver was up to date. The Bluetooth driver was 12.0.1.720, so I did update it to the newest 12.0.1.1105. The bluetooth driver installed without problem.

As fully discussed below, my two computers, a laptop and a desktop, connect by a Windows network for file and printer sharing. Often the two computers are not shown as being connected by the network in file explorer. But, by entering the numeric address of the other computer into the file explorer search field, either will connect with the other. And also, I discovered, I can enter the name of the other computer (as if one computer were named DESKTOP and the other LAPTOP). So it seems that all the network functionality is actually working except for File Explorer actually listing the names of the connected computer in its displays.
