  1. Boot-up issue: timeout from BFE service


    Group,

    Need some help here: I have an HP Pavilion desktop that occasionally stalls when I boot up.


    I'll get the HP logo, but then the screen remains dark and it does not advance to the Windows welcome picture. I then have to do a hard shutdown by turning off the PC to get it to restart and boot-up.


    Here's the error in the event viewer: "a timeout was reached while waiting for transaction response from BFE service." Source: service control manager; event ID 7011.


    I am running Windows 10 64-bit with latest updates; my security software is McAfee LiveSafe.


    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    The problem appears to be related to system components that ate not working correctly on your computer. Let's look into some things to know how we can address the problem appropriately. Please answer the following:

    • Did you install new programs or updates before the issue started?
    • What security software do you have on the computer?

    Let's diagnose the service further to check if it is recognized by Windows. Follow these steps:

    • Click on Start.
    • Type cmd /k sc qc bfe then press Enter.
    • Once you have the Command Prompt window displaying the results, check if there are any errors with the service.

    How to change the Screen Timeout settings

    Hello,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

    I would suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.


    • Right click on the desktop and click on Personalization.

    • Click on Lock screen

    • On the bottom of the screen click on Screen Timeout.

    • Under screen select the Time period accordingly.

    Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience you are facing. I will certainly help you with this. Kindly follow the below given steps and check if issue persist.

    I suggest you to increase the boot timeout value and check if issue persist. To do so, kindly follow the below given steps and check if issue is resolved:

    • Press Windows key + R to open Run.
    • Type msconfig in Run and hit enter.
    • Click on Boot tab.
    • Type 120 in the
      Timeout
      box and click on Apply then OK
    • Restart the PC and check if issue is resolved.
