Blocked access to D:\ drive after enabling Policy All Removable Storage classes: Deny all...

    Hi All,

Almost my user is using Windows 10 version 1903 (OS build 18362.418). I am expecting to block their USB or Removable Storage.

I have created a GPO for blocking Removable Storage Access for a long time and it worked without any issue. The setting of GPO like this:

Blocked access to D:\ drive after enabling Policy All Removable Storage classes: Deny all... 488eae5d-3dc2-4064-a120-2beb6fc7ba94?upload=true.jpg

Recently, my user reported to me that they cannot access their D:\ drive anymore. They are trying to restart the computer and access to D:\ drive but get these error:

Blocked access to D:\ drive after enabling Policy All Removable Storage classes: Deny all... 66bbe72e-5a1f-4218-9356-9ad2dd810626?upload=true.jpg

Blocked access to D:\ drive after enabling Policy All Removable Storage classes: Deny all... 7eb0d900-6279-437a-94a1-58da37f5e3bb?upload=true.jpg

I must disable this policy then they can access their D:\ drive normally.

It too strange since this policy has worked for a long time without issue. This is the first time I got this issue.

Does anyone know how to resolve it?

    Many thanks.

    :)

  2. Access Denied on all removable storages

Somewhere in the last 2-3 weeks I lost access to all removable storages. Accessing the SD Card in my laptop results in "Access denied", accessing a usb-stick on my usb-port results in "Access denied". Putting a Usb-Stick into my docking station (which is
plugged in via usb into my laptop) results in "Access denied".

All other devices (keyboard, mouse, docking-station) work, but I can't access
    any
removeable storage. No matter on which usb (2.0, 3.0) port they are plugged into.

I checked the registry keys, I checked the policies - all good.

When I try to take ownership I always get the error "Failed to enumerate the objects in the container. Access denied". There is no way to change the permission.

Icacls does not work: Access denied.

Grant does not work: Access denied.

I made a full virus scan, no results.

It also doesn't matter how many drives there are, none is accessible.

The disk-management shows me the disks, it even shows me free/used space, so there is no hardware problem to read the data. It must be some thing in my windows 8.1 which disabled all access.

Driver Version of the removable disks is always: 6.3.9600.18758 from 21.06.2006, which seems to be the latest one, since updating the driver doesn't change anything

I also tried to refresh the OS using an .iso Image. Its possible to mount the drive so that I can browse through the Image, but running setup.exe also results in "Access denied" ...

    Any further suggestions?

Access denied when opening USB memory on my computer

Windows 10 Pro? If so, check Group Policy 'Administrative Templates > System > Removable Storage Access' for any enabled policies. The 'All removable Storage classes: Deny all access' policy seems one likely candidate.

If not there, then select Administrative Templates and In the Actions menu set the Filter options to show any configured policies, then turn the filter on.

    Password Protect for USB port.

    Hi,

I will certainly help you in password protecting of USB port.

    Please follow the steps:

    • Open Run command (Windows logo key + R key) and type
      gpedit.msc

    • Click on computer configuration > administrative templates > system > removable storage access

    • Double click on All Removable Storage classes: Deny all access and enable it.
Note: If you enable this policy setting no access is allowed to any removable storage class. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, write and read accesses are allowed to all removable storage classes.

Please get back to us if you still face any difficulty with windows 10.

    Thank you.
