    Blank Lines In 'wmic product get name'


    Hi. I was thinking of cleaning out a few of my older programs and, just out of curiosity, I tried the 'wmic product get name' command to see what it produced and whether it was the same list as that in 'Apps & Features'. What I instantly found was that many of the lines were blank. I tried it on other computers and VMs and found nothing unusual. Does anyone know what these blank lines mean, and if they are somehow nefarious?

    Option 5 - wmic


    Hey Shawn

    If I use Option 5, it doesn't seem to work out quite the same way as it does in your screenshot.

    If I type "wmic product get name" in step 2, then I end up back at the command prompt. See my screeenshot.

    But in your screenshot you seem to end up at "wmic:root\cli>".

    This means that if I type "product where name=”name of program” call uninstall" as step 4, I just get an error saying 'Product' is not recognised as a command, I guess because I'm back at a command prompt and not within wmic?

    I suspect that typing "wmic" on its own before step 4 would make it work out?

    Or maybe this command would work directly from a command prompt? (I've not tried this yet.)

    "wmic product where name=”name of program” call uninstall"

    We appreciate you getting back to us. To change the cmd name, we suggest that you follow this steps:

    • Open a Command Prompt (Adimin) window: Win+X, A, Alt+Y
    • Then run the following command to change your computer name to Donner: WMIC ComputerSystem where Name=COMPUTER-NAME call Rename Name=NewName
    • Reboot your PC.
    • Try to run ipconfig / all command, you should find that the Host Name in Windows IP Configuration list has been changed to the new name.

    Keep us posted with the result.

    Hi Russell,

    We appreciate the information you've provided regarding the product ID. To resolve your concern, we suggest that you do the following steps:

    • Click on Start and type: Command Prompt.
    • Right click on it and select Run as administrator.
    • Type: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey.
    • Press Enter. That should give you the product key to type in the activation.
