Windows 10: Before and after recent update, entire Hard Drive is ERASED and given the letter I

Last night, I had an odd problem: I couldn't open firefox. It kept giving me a message saying "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'Firefox 7.Ink' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again." I figured this had something to do with the fact that I needed to update Windows, so I did, and everything worked again. Today, I come home from work and find out that the problem had started again, and I can't find a solution online. After reading the message I made sure the hard drive was properly connec

Right click on Windows Start OR Windows Key+X > Click Disk Management > If you see your Drive is listed there but there is no Drive Letter > Right Click it > Click Change Drive Letter and Paths > Add > Click Assign the following drive Letter > Click in the
Drive Letter List Box > Choose an appropriate Drive Letter > OK > OK

Entire E drive erased

After a restart following a small and regular windows update, my entire e drive got erased. i am not able to locate my files anywhere. how do i retrieve my files??
