    Audio crashes with Zoom/video conferencing

Using a new HP Envy laptop with AMD Ryzen processor. While using video conference service like Zoom but not only Zoom, the audio crashes partway through speakers and microphone "not found". Typically Windows freezes and computer must be restarted. It happens often on video calls/meetings but not always. There are several similar reports on the HP support forum with the usual suggestions - run software updates, update/reinstall drivers, etc. For me and others this has not solved the problem. Posting here in case anyone has ideas.

In case it's helpful, every time the audio crashes, these errors are found in the event log triggering a cascade of other errors:

    Event 1001, Windows Error Reporting

Stopcode: System Service Exception when using video conferencing software

My computer crashes regularly when using video conferencing software (Skype, Skype for Business, Zoom, etc.), but does not crash when not video conferencing. Looking at the minidump file, it says Memory Corruption and the only process name listed is dwm.exe.

Currently my Virtual Memory settings are using Windows 10 to automatically manage paging file size, currently allocated 512MB for 8GB of physical memory.

(The "System Service Exception" stopcode is when I don't have my USB mouse plugged in and am using my touchpad. When the mouse is plugged in, I instead get the stopcode "irql not less or equal".)

    ZoomVideo conferencing

Is Zoom video conferencing safe? When I tried to install their Outlook App It was blocked by Defender and reported to be unsafe.

Select sound for video conferencing with Windows 10

    Hi Polly,

This is Wil, one of the independent advisor, an expert with Windows 10 and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I understand your concern about sound for video conferencing.

Digital Outputs refer to high definition digital audio devices, which do not use regular (analog) cables to connect to computers. For example, a TV with an HDMI connection, or a high definition audio system, like a home theater system.

If your computer only uses a speaker, you should not select Digital Output. If you are having a problem with no sound on video conferencing, may I ask what application are you using for the video conference? Check as well if that particular application is muted
on the volume mixer. Open the video conferencing app that you are using where you are having a sound issue. Right-click on the sound icon on the system tray (bottom-right part beside date and time) and choose volume mixer. Make sure that all sounds for all
    applications are not muted.

I hope my suggestions help you. If you need further assistance please do reply back and I will respond as quickly as possible. Have a nice day.

    Thanks,

    Wilfred P.
