Windows 10: Attempt to restore of a backup image of Windows 10 fails

Hello,I'm trying to restore a backup of Windows 10 on an older laptop Lenovo E540, UEFI boot after replacing HDD of the laptop with an SSD 500GB Seagate replaced with a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD. My so far attempts to restore the backup by booting either from a Windows 10 installation disk or a system recovery disk failed with Windows installer refusing to restore the backup, instead giving a message that the volume that Windows Recovery Environment is running on needs to be formatted first.The issue seems to be simillar to one described here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

 

Windows 10 System Image Backup fails

I have not tried this resolution because of the initial steps I listed in my question. As mentioned in my original statement, I performed a clean install of Windows 10, yet when I tried to restore the computer from a System Image Backup it failed. As I just
got the computer up and running again with Windows 7, I didn't want to go back and try this fix as I didn't see how it would help as I originally upgraded from a Windows 7 computer that has BIOS, and upon looking at the settings, there is nothing listed about
EFI.

 

Backup and Restore (Windows 7) failing on Windows 10

After upgrading to Windows 10, my backup using (Backup and Restore (Windows 7)) has been failing. It continues to fail when it is trying to create the system image on the EFI System Partition. The error message states: "The backup was not successful.
The error is: There was a failure in preparing the backup image of one of the volumes in the backup set. (0x807800C5)." I have read other posts about this error, and none of them fix my issue. If I run the backup without creating a system image, the backup
runs successful. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
