Windows 10: Attempt to recover of a backup image of Windows 10 fails

Hello,I'm trying to restore a backup of Windows 10 on an older laptop Lenovo E540, UEFI boot after replacing HDD of the laptop with an SSD 500GB Seagate replaced with a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD. My attempts to restore the backup by booting either from a Windows 10 installation disk or a system recovery disk fail with Windows installer refusing to restore the backup, instead giving a message that the volume that Windows Recovery Environment is running on needs to be formatted first.The issue seems to be simillar to one described here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/issue

Appreciate your assistance.

Have attempted your instructions however the windows logo does not appear at any stage in the loop. The loop goes:-

Option ROM

Dell logo

The pc makes a flickering noise

Attempting to recover

Restoring your previous version

The loop then continues.

I attempted the rebooting with the Dell logo with no effect.

Any more suggestions?

 

Unable to recover Image Backup

My PC is an Asus I5 laptop originally delivered with a Win 7 Pro 64Bit OS. It had been configured to dual boot with a old version of Ubuntu Linux OS.

Recently, I did the upgrade to Windows 10 and also began doing regular backups to a large network connected hard drive. In fact, I have a current backup and WindowsImageBackup dated less than a week ago.

Now the problem.... The Windows side worked well, but the Linux would not connect to the network with Wifi. So I decided that it was time to upgrade the Linux. I loaded the latest version 17.4 (was 12.2), and in the process, inadvertently wiped the previous
OS's and partitions! Oops! Oh well, I can recover from my backup image files. Right?

First, I attempted to use a System Recovery disk created on another Win10 64Bit PC, which of course failed to boot.

Then, I downloaded the Windows 10 Installation files and rebuilt the laptop without any particular difficultly. Now, I want to reload my old partitions and system from the backups.

Numerous attempts to get Windows to recognize the network stored backup image files have failed.

Any ideas out there which will help my load the previous image?

Windows 10 System Image Backup fails

I have not tried this resolution because of the initial steps I listed in my question. As mentioned in my original statement, I performed a clean install of Windows 10, yet when I tried to restore the computer from a System Image Backup it failed. As I just
got the computer up and running again with Windows 7, I didn't want to go back and try this fix as I didn't see how it would help as I originally upgraded from a Windows 7 computer that has BIOS, and upon looking at the settings, there is nothing listed about
EFI.
