Alt + Num shortcuts no longer working on windows 11

I have the same question as BerryHarbour had about a year ago. He mentioned this: However, the shortcut like Alt+N opens up the New Tab. Seems as though the shortcuts are getting priority over the characters or those characters are disabled. This made me think, and I found out that you can work-around this by pressing Alt-Shift before you type the desired Alt-code. So it's not a solution, just a work-around. If someone else found a permanent fix, please let me know.

    :)

  2. Alt + Num shortcuts no longer working on windows 11

I built a new computer and upgraded to windows 11 with a clean install and I've noticed I can't do any ALT+Num or Character commands. Keyboard remained the same so I didn't expect any issues with that. I reinstalled the drivers and rebooted the machine a few times.

I can use Alt + F4 and Alt+Tab so I know they keys are working and getting recognized but when I try to do things like Alt+2 or Alt+-(to get an em dash) I cant; get anything to show. I tried adjusting the RegEdit, Num Lock on mouse setting and tried different installed keyboards, and made sure the sticky and filter keys were turned off.

When I go into Notepad and try to use those shortcuts, I get the system sound like it's a key combo I can't hit.

The only thing that got any type of reaction was changing the keyboard. Then I was able to use Alt+B and a few others but still not em-dash and TM symbol and stuff.

I'm also using a keyboard that doesn't have a Num Pad if that matters, though it did work on Windows 10.

Is there another setting I should try? I tried looking for other posts on this issue but couldn't seem to find one that fixed my specific issue.

Alt + Num shortcuts no longer working on windows 11

I have had this exact same issue with Windows 11. I am unable to use Alt-Num shortcuts. I find that they still function (somewhat) in Microsoft Word, producing the ASCII symbol I type in but requiring me to press Enter to confirm them. I have tested all of the links above and tried their advice, but to no avail. And unfortunately, search results have been incredibly frustrating and non-helpful, just giving the same fruitless advice.

I have attempted each of the links presented in Greg's issue. I have also submitted a support case to Microsoft. In any case, I am glad I am not the only one having this issue.

My system is an Alienware m15 r6 running Microsoft Windows 11 Home. I'm using a USB numpad, but I've confirmed via several keyboard tester applications that its keys are recognized as Numpad keys and not numerical row keys. I've also confirmed that it works on other laptops.

Unfortunately, Windows 11 came preinstalled on this machine, so I have no way of knowing if rolling back to Windows 10 would fix this issue.
