Windows 10: All the links are opening in edge, ignoring the default browser setting.

Windows 11Default browser set to Google ChromeEvery protocol and possible setting in default apps is set to google chromeYet my links are opening in edge for example from Meta Messenger as it is stupid edge web app.I'm asking for advice on how to set this or asking you to fix this, i don't want to use your edge, never did, and never will, doesn't matter how hard you try.

How to prevent Microsoft ignoring a default browser settings?

Microsoft is so eager to propagate its Edge that it even ignores a setting for a default browser. I use Chrome but many MS apps opens Edge instead. For example Bing Wallpaper. But there are many more, which open a link in Edge ignoring the settings. This is not a bug, this is an intention. Is there any secret settings which tells Microsoft apps to use the default browser?

 

Links from discord and facebook messenger open opera not edge. Edge is my default browser.

3. Scroll down and click on Choose default apps by protocol.

4. Locate MICROSOFT-EDGE in the list and click on the program icon to the right of it.

5. From the list, select Microsoft Edge to set it as the default for the protocol.

6. Confirm the change if prompted.



After doing this, links from Discord, Facebook Messenger, and other apps should open in Microsoft Edge by default. If you encounter any issues, make sure that Microsoft Edge is also set as the default browser for HTTP and HTTPS protocols in the same Default apps settings. If the problem persists, you might want to check if there are any specific settings within those apps that determine link handling, which might need to be adjusted as well.

1. Press Windows key + I to open settings.

2. Click System and click default apps.

3. Click web browser and select Microsoft edge.
