Windows 10: A solution to "Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 requires a PIN not supplied"?

My PC required a PIN to connect a Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000.


Microsoft Help resolved the issue by:

1. Open "More Bluetooth Options"

2. Check the box for "Allow Bluetooth Devices to Find this PC"

3. On a separate keyboard, typing 0000 into the PIN window.


I can't be sure that the solution did not require that step be done on the keyboard we were trying to connect, as I did that too.


Why is this not part of the advice being given?

I have read everything I can on this but cannot figure it out. It says "Enter the PIN for Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000." Is there a PIN assigned to my keyboard? Windows 10 asks me to enter a PIN, but I do not know what the PIN is for my
keyboard. Am I supposed to enter something on the keyboard or the computer? Am I supposed to make up a PIN?

Plug in a wired keyboard as part of the process.

Use a pen to press the pairing button on the back of the Microsoft keyboard.

Get to the point where you are asked for a PIN.

Click in the slot and on the wired keyboard type 0000 and hit enter.

Now type 0000 on your Microsoft 6000 keyboard and hit enter.

You should now have your Microsoft 6000 keyboard paired.
