Windows 10: 3rd monitor remains inactive

Hi, recent update made my Win11 unable to detect docking station SURFACE PRO7+. i was manage to updated graphic driver and connect to docking station again, but 3rd monitor remains inactive and unable to extend display. I tried the following: - Intel graphic driver update - this made whole machine frozen when connecting to docking station - reconnect all displays - my 3rd screen works fine when I disconnect other one - disable/enable gaming mode - disable/enable graphic card - rolling back driver and updating it again - installing up-to-date drivers for Su

3 monitors connected, but 2 are active, the 3rd monitor is forced inactive

When I'm trying to use 3 monitors, 2 are active and the third monitor is forced inactive, I've already tried updating the graphics driver, reducing the resolution of the active display, using Win+P to set it to extend, and none of that worked.

When I try to configure the display extension directly from Start -> Settings -> System -> Display, I get the error “Failed to save display settings. Try a different combination of these settings."

I dual-boot with Linux that perfectly supports triple monitors with no problems, which leads me to believe it's a software lock in Windows, I want to know how to get around this software lock.

  • For Intel: I used all the latest and previous drivers that I found in the Internet;
    
  • For AMD: I used both the latest and the oldest drivers for Windows, as well as intermediate versions of the drivers.
    

On the laptop itself, I have 2x DysplayPorts and 1x HDMI port.

3rd monitor doesn't connect

To better understand your query, kindly reply to the following questions.

1. Did you try setting up the cables again?

2. Did you try giving the recommended resolution and check if the monitor is detected?

I would suggest you to make sure that the monitors are connected to the correct video port.

However, you can go to the device manager and disable the monitor which is not working.

Follow the steps below.

• Press Windows key + X key and click on
  Device Manager.
• Expand the Monitors.
• Right-click on the monitor and select Disable.
• After sometime, try re-enabling it and check if the device gets detected.

second monitor on windows 10 laptop will not stay on

Display car driver is not listed in programs. (Step 2)



The drive was successfully updated (Step 1): NO JOY. The monitor still will not remain ON.
