Windows 10: 100% disk active time for external hard drive with high average response time Windows 11

So I have had this problem for two years... Initially the problem was that the active time spikes randomly causing the external drive to slow down. So I wanted to fix the issues and looked up a lot of the solutions. I have even done a clean reinstall of windows 11, but for some reason the issue got worse after I did a clean reinstall of windows 11. Little context is that I installed hogwarts legacy and black myth wukong in my external hard drive. For some reason, when i start the game, the disk active time is locked at 100% and the response time being very high. The very same hard drive also h

I already did these type of steps like formatting whole hard disk then clean install windows 11 and didn't install any third party apps only apps were windows stock

But still facing 100% active time hard disk but my hard disk usage was only 2% or 3%. My pc gets slow whenever active time reaches 100% and most of the time active time is always 100%.

 

My External hard disk is on 100% active time whenever it's plugged in.

One possible reason for the high active time and slow performance could be due to a corrupted file system or bad sectors on the external hard disk. I would recommend running a disk check on the external hard disk to identify and fix any errors.

Slow Hard Disk Response Time

I have a laptop computer running Windows 10. The performance has become unbearable.

Looking at Task Manager, I can see that the Average Response Time sometimes gets over 450 ms, and the Active Time holds steady at 100%.





The drive has plenty of available space. Nonetheless, I ran disk cleanup and checked that fragmentation is not excessive.





This may have started around the time that my laptop was serviced because the battery had swollen up and made the pad buttons hard to press. I'm just trying to get some idea if the hard drive is dying, or if there could be some kind of configuration issue.
