Windows 10: Windows 11 seems to be seriously messing with security without telling us what it's doing....

Since being forced to buy a new desktop PC to install Windows 11, my new PC appears to be using the PIN it forced me to create to login, as a passkey to other accounts, including both Google and Amazon. I never have saved passwords on my PC because I think it's unsecure, but I've found that now when I login to Windows and go to the Amazon site, I'm being logged into my Amazon account automatically. The same is happening with my Google account.I can only imagine that Windows must be telling the Amazon and Google sites to use a passkey created with my hello pin, and sharing that public key wit

Windows 11- Can't access Windows Security. Tried all the fixes I could find.

I had to rebuild my computer and reinstall Win 10, then Win 11. Now, when I try to get into Windows Security, I get a "Get an app to open this "windowsdefender" link" message. So far, I have tried:

• Updating Windows
  
• I can't repair/reset the App because it doesn't show up in the App list.
  
• Using Powershell to run "Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage"
  
• Someone suggested looking for Microsoft.SecHealthUI_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appx and reinstalling it. It's not on my computer.
  
• sfc /scannow - no problems found
  

I have Windows 11 Pro 22H2 22621.963 64-bit.

The taskbar icon is warning me that there are recommended actions, but it won't tell me what they are, just gives the same error message.

Windows Security System is running and is on Manual.

I do not have a third-party antivirus/firewall software package installed.

The only other suggestion I found was to reinstall Windows. I'd hate to have to do that again. Are there any other options?

That made me so facepalm. Some people have absolutely no clue. I hope they don't take you for granted with all this you're doing for them.

SonicWall is a good security product, so Mindweaver's suggestion sounds like a good one and should make for a rather bigger baby step. Let's hope they take it.

 

How do I get Windows Security turned back on in Windows 11 after uninstalling SpyBot?

I had Spybot for awhile, but have recently uninstalled it. However, even now that it is uninstalled, Windows 11 refuses to turn its native security back on. I have a constant notification telling me "Turn virus protection on", but, when I go into security settings and click "Restart Now" under "Virus and threat protection", it hangs for about 3 minutes, then throws an unexpected error.

I have attempted to reset the Windows Security app, but it's not in my apps list. I have attempted to reinstall Windows Defender, but apparently it only works if you pay for 365 (seriously???).

How do I reinstall and reactivate Windows Security? Or has Microsoft moved to a model where I have to pay a subscription fee to get a built in security app?
