  1. Asking for credentials to access a shared folder which i have accessed before

Hello!I am trying to access a shared folder on my network at work. I have accessed this folder before, and one day i was not able to access it anymore as it asks for network credentials? and when i cancel it i get an error. i hope the links for the pictures work.- like i said, i have accessed this folder before.- i can still access it from a different computer with no issues, so the folder is definitely shared, and this makes me think it's something about my computer.- i tried entering my credentials, didn't work.- the computer whose folder i am trying to access does not open with a password

    :)

Win 10 PC accessing a Win 10 Everyone share prompted for credentials

I have a new Windows 10 Home computer and I've selected a folder and shared it. I've added Everyone to the Share Permissions list with Full Control.

I've selected "Turn off password protected sharing" in the Advance Sharing Center.

When I try to access the share with a Windows 7 laptop in the home it connects right away without a prompt for credentials. When I try to access the share from another Windows 10 device (Surface) there is a prompt for credentials and I am unable to access the shared folder. There are no common account names between machines on my home network.

On the Windows 10 machine which is trying to connect I have run Net use * /DELETE and removed all Windows Credentials using the Credentials Manager then rebooted both machines a few times. Still though the Windows 7 machine can access the share with no credentials and the Windows 10 machine can't access it at all.

My goal is to get the share working for the Windows 10 machine as it works for the Windows 7. Full access, no prompt for credentials. I've workaround steps that will provide access so that type of information isn't needed.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and any help would be most appreciated.

  3. Win 10 PC accessing a Win 10 Everyone share prompted for credentials

Here is the solution for this issue :

1 Right click on the folder that you want to share
    2. Go to Properties
    3. Go to Security Tab then click Edit on group and usernames
    4. Click Add and on the user and group window click advance
    5. Click Find Now and look for Everyone on the Search results, Click OK to close the window and OK again
    6. Give the control you need for Everyone and click "OK"

That should make that folder accessible without prompting for windows credentials Asking for credentials to access a shared folder which i have accessed before :)

Folder on NAS not accessible by Windows, network credentials give access denied

Thank you very much for reaching out! As an Independent Advisor and fellow Microsoft user, I'm more than happy to assist you.

It seems like the issue might be related to permissions or user account configurations on your OMV NAS. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Folder Permissions on OMV:
      • Ensure that the specific backup folder has the correct permissions set for the user account you are using to access it. Sometimes, even if other folders are accessible, specific folders might have different permissions.
      • Go to the OMV web interface, navigate to the shared folder settings, and verify the permissions for the backup folder. Make sure the user account has the necessary read/write permissions.
    2. Create a New User on OMV:
      • As suggested in a similar case, creating a new user on OMV with the same username and password as your Windows local account might help. This can sometimes resolve access issues due to mismatched credentials.
    3. SMB Protocol Version:
      • Ensure that the SMB protocol version used by OMV is compatible with your Windows 10 setup. Sometimes, mismatches in SMB versions can cause access issues. You can check and adjust the SMB settings in the OMV web interface under Services -> SMB/CIFS.
    4. Clear Windows Credentials Cache:
      • Although you've already tried removing and re-adding credentials, ensure that the credentials cache is completely cleared. You can do this by:
        • Opening Command Prompt as an administrator.
        • Running the command: net use * /delete to clear all cached network credentials.
        • Rebooting your computer and then trying to access the NAS again.
    5. Check for OMV Updates:
      • Even though you are using an older version of OMV, check if there are any critical updates or patches available that might address this issue. Sometimes, updating to a newer version can resolve compatibility issues.
    6. Network Configuration:
      • Verify that your network configuration on both Windows and OMV is correct. Ensure that there are no IP conflicts and that the NAS is properly recognized on the network.
    7. Use IP Address Instead of Hostname:
      • Try accessing the NAS using its IP address instead of the hostname. Sometimes, DNS resolution issues can cause access problems.
    8. Check Firewall and Security Software:
      • Ensure that your firewall or any security software on Windows is not blocking access to the NAS. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you might want to consider seeking further assistance on the OpenMediaVault forums, where other users and experts might have additional insights specific to OMV configurations.

Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!
