Windows 10: ELAN Fingerprint Sensor for Sign-On Not Working with Admin Account

Hello!I have Windows 11. I am using an Administrator account, not a normal user account. I removed the normal user account because I wanted to be using the admin account on my pc. I could successfully use the fingerprint sign-on feature with the normal user account. However, I am unable to set up the fingerprint sign-on for my Admin account. The device name is ELAN WBF Fingerprint Scanner.Here is what I have tried so far:Restarted my computerUsed safe mode to troubleshootUninstalled and reinstalled the driverDisabled then enabled the scannerAttached you can see what I see still after trying al

ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor Driver Exit Code 31

Hi @All!

Today, I got a driver update for my BENSS fingerprint sensor (Amazon Link) via Windows updates.

It updated from:

• ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor version 3.10.12001.10102 [02/04/2020]
  

to

• ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor version 3.10.12001.10501 [07/01/2022].
  

The new driver exits with the code 31.

I "solved" my issue by falling back to the old driver:

Recently I have been unable to use my fingerprint sensor on my Asus Vivobook Pro14X. Under device manager > ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor properties, it is stated that "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)



Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API. "

May I know how to resolve this?

Hi, it's possible your compatible driver has been overwritten. If you look in your Update History, drivers at the bottom, there may be a reference. Else look in Device manager for something like

and you will see the date of the driver. That's if you still have a driver installed-- which may even be your problem... Then go to the PC's driver page for your model- the exact model would be important. Find the version of the last driver available in whatever is the last version of Windows supported for that PC.
