Windows 10: Headset Mic not working on pc with splitter

I recently bought a splitter for my headset seeing as the mic doesn't work when I plug it in normally, so I plugged it into the back of my pc and it still didn't work. I went to the sound settings and it recognizes my headset as headphones, but only recognizes my mic as a standalone microphone, before I used the splitter the microphone wouldn't even show up. I tried to use the microphone on the headset and it plays nothing but static when i play the test. I've used this headset on my console so I know the mic works, I just can't seem to figure out the issue.

I've tried the headset by itself and it works but mic doesn't. So i go to use the splitter then the mic works and there's no audio. I have tried running a diagnostic but nothing, It's not that the volume was down. Please help.

Ive done all of those the mic and headphones work fine when its not in the splitter but when i add the splitter sounds come through the headset and speakers like i want but no mic

 

Microphone not working with headset to mic splitter

Hi guys,

I just spent about $10 getting a replacement cable for my headphones that has a mic built in. It's a 3.5mm headset cable (has both mic and headphone audio) that I've connected to a Y-splitter that goes to a mic cable and a headphone cable.

These definitely work as I tried them on my laptop with immediate success.

However, on my desktop, no dice. I can hear audio, but the microphone does not work. I've tried both the front and back audio ports, even opened up the case and checked all my connections to the motherboard and they're all OK.

Are there some obscure Windows settings I can fiddle around with? I have this Realtek Audio Console which is next to useless. Says mic is connected and that's all.

I have Windows 10 for Education 1909.
