Windows 10: How to prevent Windows Photo app to show thumbnail of the last viewed photo when the app...

When you press the Start button. and the Productivity apps icons are shown, the Windows Photo app always remembers the last picture that was viewed on it, and it displays a thumbnail of the picture even if that image was deleted after the app was closed. Where does the app keep a copy of the information to be able to show the thumbnail of a picture that doesn't exist on file anymore? This is a behavior that seems to go against the privacy of the user. Can this be set to not behave that way? I've tried some recommendations from other comments, which include setting in the Personalization option

Photos App - No Thumbnails


On my neighbour's machine (that I did a clean install on) when they load pictures from their camera, and the Photo app launches, all the photos/pictures shown in the Photo app are blank - i.e. the thumbnails are not showing. On this machine thumbnails are set to show and if you look at, for example, the Pictures folders all pictures are shown as thumbnails (via explorer). The set up of this machine is the same as mine and on my pc the Photo app icons do show as thumbnails. I have been trying to turn my Photo app thumbnail preview on and off but do not know how to do it. My logic being of I can turn thumbnails on and off in the Photo app I could get to the route of my neighbour's problem.

My windows 10 photos app does not show thumbnails when I am viewing my entire collection. The "always show icons,never thumbnails checkbox" is unchecked. I can't even view photos earlier using the app; found a fix by disabling automatic photo enhancing from
the settings. Now my only problem is there are no thumbnails. Any help is appreciated.

ok.. update on my post...

upon reviewing my folder settings I saw that my view settings were wrong to be able to view thumbnails in file explorer.. I unticked always show icons, never thumbnails and as good measure I also unticked display file icon on thumbnails.. and it worked..
pretty much all my apps and programs (photo viewing and editors) will show thumbnails now.. the app that I am using currently is the photos app.. thumbnails for movies is also shown as well..
