    Windows - Application Error and Adobe Acrobat


    This only started recently in March 2025, but every time I open a .pdf using Adobe Acrobat I get a repetitive Windows - Application Error message. It says:The instruction at 0x00000000756C8E6D referenced memory at 0x00000000000018. The memory could not be read.I can't find anything within the MS community or online about this specific error message. Please advise!

    Hi Dianne,

    Sorry for the delay in response.

    If you have issues with acrobat reader, we would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the application.

    • To uninstall, type appwiz.cpl
    • Right click adobe acrobat reader and then Uninstall
      it.
    You may also check for the reader app in store and then install it.

    You certainly have my permission to use Adobe Acrobat, if that makes any difference. ;-)

    Although you can install applications from a Standard user account with the 'Run as Administrator' option, some applications just install better from an Administrators account.

    • Sign in to a user account with Administrators permissions.
    • Download the installer for Adobe Acrobat.
    • Temporarily disable your antivirus protection.
    • Install Adobe Acrobat. Open the program and wait until it's completely loaded.
    • Close Adobe Acrobat. Re-enable your antivirus protection.
    • Sign out of the Administrators account and sign back in to your Standard account.

    You should be good to go.

    I want Adobe Acrobat Standard X to be my default not Reader

    Thank you for the update.

    As per the description, Adobe Acrobat Standard X is not listed as a default app but it pops up listed as a "desktop app".

    I suggest you to check the app in the Programs and features.
    To do so follow the below steps.

    1. Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl

    If the application is not present in the Programs & Features
    then Suggest you to download the app from the link.

    choose the appropriate language under Acrobat X standard installer,
    and download.
