Windows 10: How can I use an old HDD?

So I recently found my old HP Pavilion zv5000 with a copy of Windows XP on it but I never managed to get it to run since the RAM is busted. The Windows XP OS is on an HDD in the computer that came with it. I was wondering if I could use that same HDD put it in a newer laptop and see what files I have on it, or even better, boot from the drive and use Windows XP again. Is it possible to do that? If yes, what steps should I follow?Thanks in advanceElina
