  2. File History Not Backing Documents Windows 11

File History is not backing up all files and folders on Windows 11.

File History is only backing up files and folders on my desktop and downloads folder.

    Troubleshooting steps I took:

    1. Deleted all files and folders off the external drive I use for back up

    2. Turned off file history

    3. Set up File History again to back up my files

File History would only back up files and folders on my desktop and downloads folder

    Repeated steps 1 and 2

Doubled checked and made sure One Drive backup is still off.

I opened the two configuration files used for backing up and updated them to include all folders that File History should back.

    Repeated step 3.

Still File History on Windows 11 will not back up all folders and files.

Microsoft needs to update File History on Windows 11 to how it was used on Windows 10 - giving users to set it up within settings and give us users the options to add locations.

After all of the troubleshooting steps I took, it appears as though File History back up is stuck between a selection from Windows 10 prior to upgrading my PC to Windows 11.

  3. adding WSL home folder to file history to be backed up to NAS

    Hello, this is Emily.

To add your WSL home folder to the list of files backed up by File History, you will need to first include it in your Library then you can set it up to be backed up via File History. Here are the steps:

    1. Find your WSL home folder in File Explorer. Right click on the folder and choose "Include in library" and then "Documents" library.
    2. Type "Control Panel" in the search on your taskbar and hit enter to launch it. then go to "File History."
    3. Click on "Exclude folders" and remove the folder you want to backup from the excluded list.
    4. Save the changes and then click on Backup now.

File History Not Backing Documents Windows 11

I have office 365 and nothing is saved to Office 365 or OneDrive. I turned this feature off for when saving docs/data.

I do believe you are missing the entire point of the issue I explained with File History.

I'll break it down in even simpler terms:

When I set up File History it does not include my Documents folder or any other folders. File History only backs up my Desktop and Downloads folder.

File History only gives the option to exclude folders and does not give the option to include folders.

The only option you have to even try and include a specific folder is

Opening that folder then right clicking and selecting include in library.

The folder is added under libraries - but it's not backed up by File History.

When you try this with your documents folders - you will have to select each individual folder < a real f.ck show because it will show each individual folder listed under Library. Documents folder is already an implied library and when try including the documents folder it will show as Documents(2) even though the implied Documents folder is not listed in the library.

File History ='s100% trash with Windows 11 << I'm better off watching a crackhead dance for quarters then trying to use File History on Windows 11.

Next Option is use Command prompt with the combination of reg edit and completely remove File History options for Windows 11 and install the code for windows 10 file history on my windows 11 pc.
