I have seen this question asked in numerous places on the internet, including this site, but I have never seen it receive a satisfactory answer. If I window a window, press ALT+SPACE, then choose "Move", I can move the window wherever I like with the arrow keys, including above the top of the screen. This is what I expect.Unfortunately, if I drag the window above the top border of the screen, when I press RETURN to confirm my choice, the window snaps below the top of the screen again. This happens even if I completely disable window snapping via multitasking in Settings - not that this option

Snap Assist to top and bottom in portrait mode

I work in Portrait on my desktop and have found an almost-but-not-quite solution building on Eeshwar's suggestion.

    1) Snap a window to one of the corners. For this purpose we'll say you have your notes app and Snap it to bottom-left or bottom-right.

    2) Size the snapped window horizontally to fill the screen

    3) Snap "top" window to either top corner - the window will match the size of your previously-snapped bottom window and fill the rest of the screen.

    This solution has drawbacks:

    1) Extra step - you must resize the initial window after snapping

    2) No official keyboard shortcuts

  3. Windows 10 Top Snap Feature - Partial Fix

So, similar to many out there, I love side snap and detest top snap.

How to keep the former while eliminating the latter?

This is the closest I have come:

    • Start Menu
    • Settings
    • Search 'snap'
    • switch off 'When I snap a window, automatically size it to fill available space'
Note this won't completely eliminate top snapping, but it doesn't seem to do it as quickly as before AND it doesn't eliminate left/right snap.

Let me know what you think of my fix or if you have a better one.

    Cheers!

Snapping windows to the top and bottom of the screen

    Hey all,

As part of my setup in my office, I have one monitor rotated 180 to use in portrait mode. Something I have not been able to figure out is if you can snap a window to the top or bottom half of the screen as you would snap to the left or right on a landscape screen. Is there possibly a hidden setting I haven't found yet that would allow me to do this?

    Thanks.
