  1. Which small household NAS is the most secure

A few years ago I was victimized by a ransomware attack on my QNAP NAS. I dumped it and set up an old computer with Windows to meet my needs. I am now looking to see if there are small NAS devices available using SSD storage that can be isolated from access by folks outside of my LAN, perhaps a NAS that provides Windows 11 Pro security features. One issue I have been facing is the ability to set up the sharing we want here between systems on the LAN. Windows is not very friendly here and I have not found adequate support to learn how to do this easily. Any tips would be much appreciated.

    :)

  2. Bluetooth connecting to household devices

Add the MAC addresses of your household devices to your router's block list. They will not be allowed on your network.

  3. Network attached storage (NAS)

OKAY... I get the laptop thru all the updates by using the troubleshooter. Now I still cannot see my NAS in file explorer BUT there is one file listed in quick access that is on the NAS. If I open file location I can see everything on the NAS (WOOHOO)
but if I close file explorer and reopen it the NAS does not appear(?).

I am sure there is a small tweak that needs to be made but at least if I don't loose the quick access I will be able to access my files.

    One step forward!!!!

    Thanks,

    Len

NAS drive not showing in the Network after Windows 10 auto update this week

    Hello Charles,

Let's get your NAS device detected on your home network.

Kindly follow the suggested steps below:

Step 1: Disable anti-virus software and Windows Firewall.

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software,
you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Follow the below steps to turn off Windows Firewall:

    • Press Windows + X, click on Control Panel, select
Category and then select Large or Small icons.
    • Click on Windows Firewall.
    • Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • Click Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended) under each network location that you want to stop trying to protect, and then click
      OK.
    If the issue still persists,

Step 2: We suggest you to reconfigure the NAS drive.
