Windows 10: Is Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter really a dual band supporting 5GHz?

I knew it supports only 2.4GHz and physically too it has been identifying only 2.4GHz networks. But see what I got in CMD. Can someone explain the anomaly? Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network adapter and Windows 10

Are you coming to the conclusion that your wifi network adapter (specifically the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x) is faulty because Windows trouble shooter cannot resolve your wifi connectivity issues? I was. I finally found a driver that seems to have solved the
problem. See link below.

My Windows 10 laptop (an Acer Aspire) repeatedly lost its ability to connect to my Wifi network. If I restarted my router it would work until the next time the laptop slept, hibernated or shut down. The trouble shooter could never resolve the issue and the
so-called search for updated drivers always told me I had the latest one. I spent hours trying every so-called solution posted on this and other forums to resolve this issue with no success. After trying various search parameters for drivers I finally found
a link to the driver that solved my problem. (Atheros was the key, not Qualcomm.)

I do not know why Windows does not find this driver when searching for updated drivers for the AR956x.

I installed it yesterday so it's still early days but so my laptop has seamlessly resumed it's wifi connection after shut-down, sleep and hibernation. It was so great this morning to discover I did not have to restart the router to get the laptop back online!

Atheros 956x dual band?

The function is controlled by your hardware. The laptop must have a dual band wireless network adapter to get the 5GHz band. You can check your laptops specs to see.

If it does have dual band capability then you will see the 5GHz connection in your Network list. You can then just connect to it instead of the 2.4GHz one.
On the router you need to be sure to give the 5GHz band a unique SSID, different from the 2.4 by at least one letter.

To get higher speeds the network adapter needs to be Wireless n or ac. If it is wireless g you are stuck in the slow lane.
