Windows 10: backup & restore Windows 7 hangs while creating full system image and can't get canceled

I have used backup & restore Windows 7 for quite a while without problems. I am running on a Surface Pro 9 with Windows 11. I start a create a system image and it ran for quiet a while, ususally a couple of hours but it just hangs. I get out of the program and back in and try to start the system image and it says it is still running and must wait to continue. There is no way to cancel. I have tried the "Reset this PC" in the System - Recovery in Settings but that has not worked either. I have tried rebooting, fix problems using Windows Update...... Nothing seems to work to get the

Creating a System Image backup - keeps looping

The system image is exactly like the mirrored copy of the Operating System which contains the configuration of the Operating System. When you create backup system image your windows 10 comes back to the same position at when the image was created earlier.

As an initial step, I suggest you to make sure that the services required for backup to run successfully is enabled. Refer to these steps:

  Press Windows + R
  keys, type services.msc and press Enter.
  
• 
  In the services window, locate the services
  File history service and the Volume shadow copy service and check if they are running.
  
• 
  If they are not running, right-click and select
  Start to manually start the service.

  Check if you are able to create a backup now.

Step 2: If the issue still persists, I suggest you to boot the computer in a clean boot state and then check.

Windows 7 backup

Haven't used it but sounds like it based on Backup and Restore Center info found here. Says you can choose what files and folders if you want and also mentions a system image. Quicken has it's own backup option under one of the menus, use that too. I have for my mom and it's a breeze. Just reinstall app and use Restore in Quicken.
