Windows 10: Wifi changes to different wifi and from private to public

Occasionally a Norton pop-up window says my computer is being connected to mywifiname 2 and public. When that happens, I change it to private. When I look at the list of available wifi, mywifiname 2 isn't listed and it says I'm connected to mywifiname and it is set to private. I don't know if this related, but there is a Hidden Network in the list.. Norton says my computer is protected and there are no issues. This doesn't happen on either my Android phone or tablet.

Changing wifi settings from public to private

I have seen the same question being asked with the same answer that apparently does not exist: I want to change my WiFi connection from public to private. The suggestion I keep seeing is:

1. On the right side of the taskbar, select the Wi-Fi network icon.
2. Under the name of the Wi-Fi network that you’re connected to, select
   Properties.
3. Under Network profile, select Public or
   Private.

Well I am running WIndows Home version 1903 and there is no link called
Network profile where I can select between Public or
Private.

 

configure two network type wifi public and Ethernet private


Hello,

I have two network adapters in Windows 10 one wifi for connecting to internet and one Ethernet for local network.
I need to configure wifi adapter to public network and Ethernet to private network but i can't.

Inverse it work ( wifi to private and Ethernet to public ) but I don't need that.
(only wifi adapter have option to be discoverable by others pd in Network Settings -> advanced options )


I need to share files by Ethernet AND NOT by wifi.

Any suggestion?

Public and Private WiFi

Hi,

I have a WiFi router that I use to get a couple of computers connected together and sharing stuff. Internet is absolutely not needed and is not present - just Wireless Networking.

One of these two computers, when in action, will not have a monitor attached to it and I must have faith that when I start it, it will grab on the WiFi that I have made available in the space and then I can remote into it and use it for things. This all
works fine except that the WiFi setting keeps changing from Private to Public, and by definition, when a WiFi is set to be Public the PC is hidden from other devices on the network and can’t be used for printer and file sharing.

I have a feeling that it is what I need to set inside the router that provides the WiFi? Because certainly the selection in the Properties of the WiFi in Settings don't seem to stick.

Is there a way to run a script at startup that changes the properties of a "known" WiFi to Private every time it runs? It sure would be great if I could do that to be sure the computer is behaving itself since it won't have a monitor attached to it.

All these PC's run Win 10 Pro, by the way.
