Windows 10: Winaero Tweaker - Customize This PC Folders - unhandled exception [solved]

Referring to Winaero tweaker, This PC folders - Microsoft Community, I had the same problem.The cause was that I had transferred my user data to a new user profile using ForensiT Transwiz.Just like MartinWalker6, when I launched Winaero Tweaker and accessed the File Explorer > Customize This PC Folders tweak, I got the unhandled exception:************** Exception Text ************** System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at WinaeroTweaker.Classes.ThisPCTweaker.GetThisPCFolders at WinaeroTweaker.Pages.pageThisPCTweaker.ReadSettings a

Winaero tweaker, This PC folders

I had added some custom system folders to This PC in File Explorer using Winaero Tweaker under Window 10. When I upgraded to Windows 11, everything was fine. When I upgraded to the current version of Winaero Tweaker, I now get an error message that an unhandled exception has occurred in my application. (object reference not set to an instance of an object). When I click on continue, the folders currently in the Customize This PC Folders do not appear. I can add new folders just fine, but there is no way to delete the folders that are already there. I tried to go into the registry and look at the GUID keys, but I can't find any way to identify which GUID keys are for the folders that I need to delete. The folders I need to get rid of appear in File Explorer under This PC and also in the Navigation pane, but when I try to delete them in either place in File Explorer I can't do it. Does anyone have a way for me to identify which GUID keys re for the folders I need to get rid of?

 

Renaming custom This PC folders

I have two custom folders in This PC, one named TV Shows A-K and the other named TV Shows L-R. These were created using Winaero tweaker. I need to rename these. I cannot access this section of Winaero Tweaker to delete previously created custom This PC folders (I can create new custom folders- just can't delete existing ones) due to a problem with my Windows 11 Pro installation- the existing folders won't show up in Winaero Tweaker due to an exception error, so I can't see them in Tweaker to delete them. (I know this problem is in Windows and not Winaero Tweaker. I have already tried reinstalling Tweaker and doing an in-place Windows upgrade).

Does anyone know how I can either delete these existing folders, so I can create new ones in Tweaker, or know how I can rename these existing folders in either the registry or some other way to the new names?

That didn't work. There are about 70 or so {GUID} keys shown in the registry, including the standard ones usually shown under This PC. I looked at the name of all of them, and none had the name of the folders I wanted to hide or get rid of. I did a registry search for the names of the unwanted folders, and none of the names were found anywhere in the registry.

This is the error message I get when I open the Customize This PC folders tweak in Winaero. If I choose to continue, I am able to create new custom folders in This PC, but Winaero will not show me any existing folders or allow me to delete any existing folders, just add new ones.
