Windows 10: Pc Shutdowns during any GPU intensive task and random BSOD sitting idle

As of 3 months ago, my computer started to act up. When I do homework or use it for web, it runs fine, with no lag or performance issues. However, when I go to play a game or simulator, the PC just shuts off completely, no video output and fans turn off. Sometimes when I turn it on it turns on fine, but sometimes it automatically boots to BIOS settings. Also, sometimes the PC just sits idle and will randomly BSOD with error: Unexpected Store Exception; however this has happened a little too many times over the past few months to be normal. Consistent BSOD with intensive tasks

What happened

- While playing a video game the monitor suddenly only displayed a black screen (no video displayed, audio still playing, computer still running).

- Turned off (held power button down until it powered down)

- Tried to turn it back on. It beeped 6 times at POST and wouldn't turn on.

- Turned on without issue the following day.

- A small electrical-sounding 'beep' started coming from the tower irregularly. I stopped trying to run anything intensive when that happened.

- It works fine during light use - word processing, web browsing, videos, simple flash games, etc. Anything more intensive and it BSODs after a few minutes.



What I've tried

- Used troubleshooters in Windows Settings & in SupportAssist.

- Tried most recent drivers, and the drivers that were working fine until now.

Computer details

The computer isn't that old (April 2015), but the warranty has definitely expired. The minidump of the latest BSOD, and the MSinfo32 file are here: Microsoft OneDrive

Overview of specs (nothing is over/under-clocked)

- OS: Windows 10 64 bit

- CPU: i7-5820k

- GPU: GTX 980

- RAM: 16gb

- Disk: 256gb SSD + 1TB HDD

Based on what I've read about the 6 beeps at POST and how it's failing only in graphically intensive tasks my guess is that the GPU is at fault. But if anyone can help diagnose what's going wrong and/or how to fix it I'd really appreciate it.

This list is great. Now I got some buying to do, but please keep them coming. I love games that make me step my PC up.

 

Random but frequent BSOD after idling for some time.

Hello, our computers in computer labs with Dell OptiPlex 7470 often run into BSODs after certain amount of idle time. Below are the common errors we see:

• KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
  
• CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
  
• SYSTEM_SERVICE_ERROR
  

These are domain-joined computers, running with same Windows master image deployed through Clonezilla.

Their occurrence seems random and without pattern, one computer can show BSODs with these respective errors at different times.

Below are the steps we tried:

• chkdsk /f /r /x
  
• dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth: no error found
  
• sfc /scannow: no error found
  

(The above three commands in order)

• Hibernate and Fast Startup is disabled
  
• Power Management for screen, hard disk, computer set to never sleep in any scenario
  
• C-state control disabled in BIOS
  
• Scanned disk for any errors using the software, CrystalDiskInfo.
  
• Windows Memory Diagnostic (shows no error found)
  
• Driver Verifier (unsure of how to continue using it after its BSOD showing Verifier found violations)
  
• Cleaned and reseated RAM
  
• Swapped with SSD with same Windows image.
  
• Pulled out one of the workstations out to test environment and installed with clean windows image, does not have BSOD issue.
  

But the problem seems to be re-occurring every now and then even after all these steps.
