Windows 10: No recieving the email with a verification code

I have just got a new laptop and am trying to add my outlook.com email address to Outlook. It does not allow entering the password or getting a verification code by phone. It says it will send an email to my email address, which is fine as I still have access on my old laptop and phone. I am not receiving that email. I tried yesterday and today. It gives no other options to get the code another way. Please help, as I am getting very close to throwing the laptop across the room !!!
