Windows 10: How to remove onedrive files without deleting them on cloud

I need to delete all onedrive files on my laptop work-related, confidential, but want keep them online, on cloud. I unlinked the laptop, but realized the files were still present in Onedrive folder. I deleted them.Later I was surprised to see that the files were still on my laptop, only in another folder managed to get there when I opened Microsoft Word and saw a word file in a list that was supposed to be deleted. I deleted these files as well, but received an email, that "a lot of files were deleted from my drive". I just restored them from the bin, but this means that the files were sti

Deleting on-disk OneDrive folder WITHOUT deleting from cloud?

Dear Cerberus. Er - here's a picture of my OneDrive folder, if I can work out how to attach it to this! No cloudsigns or ticks in boxes, just a long list of files I want only in the cloud, not on the hard drive (but don't want to delete FROM the cloud!!)

It's come up saying 'Attach=Config}347209[/attach] so I hope something appears when I post this! Very sorry - how do I make the ticks and cloud signs appear? BTW - there's more in that list than's appearing in the screenshot, that's why it doesn't look like that many files. Yours respectfully Chris.

 

OneDrive keeps uploading files I've deleted

It's possible that OneDrive is still syncing the deleted files from your desktop to the cloud. Allow me to ask:

• Are you using OneDrive for Personal? or OneDrive for Business?
  
• Can you still see the deleted folder in Your request has been blocked. This could be due to several reasons. ? If you are I would suggest deleting it in the OneDrive.com since this is the cloud server of OneDrive.
  
• I would like to know what @domain and who is hosting your email account? example for @domains: Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, Outlook.com/Hotmail.com
  
  • May I know if the account is for Work/School use? or Personal (Hotmail/Outlook.com) use?
    

To stop this, you can try the following steps:



1. Pause OneDrive syncing: Right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and select "Pause syncing". This will stop OneDrive from uploading any new files.



2. Clear OneDrive cache: Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R, type %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset, and press Enter. This will clear the OneDrive cache and reset the app.



3. Unlink and relink OneDrive: Right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and select "Settings". Go to the "Account" tab and click "Unlink this PC". Then, sign in to your Microsoft account and relink your PC to OneDrive. Unlink and re-link OneDrive - Microsoft Support

Note: No data will be lost by unlinking and re-linking your OneDrive, your local folders are just disconnected from the cloud for a short while. Any changes made while you're unlinked will be synced once re-linking is complete.



4. Exclude the folder from syncing: If the above steps don't work, you can exclude the folder from syncing by right-clicking on the OneDrive icon in the system tray, selecting "Settings", going to the "Account" tab, clicking "Choose folders", and unchecking the folder you don't want to sync.

Remove files from OneDrive?

YES, I do this often, copy certain pictures from This PC Pictures to share publicly on Onedrive. These are COPIES of hard drive files so if I delete from cloud, does not affect hard drive status. Way to think about this, is that Onedrive Documents and This PC Documents are two SEPARATE folders. Some content may differ depending what you want to store offline but only the Onedrive files are in the Cloud and does not affect what is on your main drive.
