Windows 10: Sound output stopped working

My system was playing sound one day, and the next day there was no sound. I went to Troubleshoot sound problems, and it said I didn't have any devices connected. I have speakers attached to my monitor's audio output. My monitor is attached with HDMI.

Sound output stops working

Sound output turns off when I use an external mic (Blue Yeti - Professional Multi-Pattern USB MIC) as the input. System settings indicate the output is directed to the laptop output (Realtek (R) Audio) but there is no sound. Mic input works fine but cannot restore audio output without unplugging the mic. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Lester, i did the steps you suggested but it didn't work,

I was just using it casually and it suddenly stopped working, i restarted it but it worked temporarily and now it shows no device connected in the audio output section

To assist you better, I suggest you to answer the below questions.

• When will the sound disable, when playing through main monitor or the extended monitor?
• Did you try enabling the sound from the sound drivers and check if it helps?
• Since from when are you facing this issue?

This issue causes because the monitor automatically takes the HDMI sound as the Default input. Disable and enable the speakers and check if it helps.

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.

• Right click on the volume control and then
  Properties,
• When you connect the HDMI it becomes the default output device, even though it has no speakers.
• You need to change this back to "Speakers" and set as default.
