Windows 10: when i copy DCIM folder to my laptop, it doubled in size

My dcim folder on my phone has 64 gb of photos and videos on it. I am trying to move it to my laptop and while copying it, I see that my laptop says: 137gb to copy... is it normal? I am copying from a galaxy s22 to a 2023 yoga lenovo.

Cant Copy and Paste large iphone DCIM photo folders WIN11

I can't copy and paste large iPhone DCIM photo folders to my external drive. If it is of small memory capacity, it seems to copy fine. Exceed somewhere about 60MB, either as the folder total, or copying multiple files that accumulate memory somewhere over 60MB is fails. I know in the range of 100MB the paste function drops some of the files. I am not sure exactly where the capacity issue starts to cause it to fail.

If I copy and paste multiple files within the DCIM folder in chucks of 60MB or less I can manually accumulate all the files contained in the original DCIM folder, pasting the chunks manually to a USB attached External Drive on my win11 desktop.

As a test I moved multiple chucks to my desktop Win11 HDD (C) drive. Trying to copy an entire larger DCIM/iPhone folder would not work. Once I had all the files accumulated, that were in the original DCIM folder, in a Folder on my Win11 HDD (C). I as able to copy and paste the entire contents to an external USB attached HDD, in one copy and paste.

Not knowing why, it appears as if the "copy to Clipboard" capacity is limited only when attempting to copy from the iPhone DCIM folder ... that is something in excess of 60MB? While this limitation does not occur Desktop HDD to External HDD.

This iphone is attached via a USB. With the DCIM folders showing. Also the files within the folders if you open the folders.

I tried to increase the Virtual Memory to 5000MB but it did not help. Though I doubted that was it since HDD (C), to External HDD copies and pastes just fine.

Windows "Photos" always stops in the middle of trying to import the photos. So something is impacting that too?

I spent 2 1/2 hrs on the phone with 3 different Apple techs. They had me trying it a third way, and the that way seems to also hang up and fail too. I suspect when hitting these larger capacity folders. But they seem lost too. A ticket was opened to have them dive into this. They were trying to point the finger as this being a Microsoft problem.

Anyone have things I can check, Sorry not the most computer savvy,

 

Storage showing as double the actual SSD size

Running Windows 10 Home 20H2 (Build 19042.964) on an AMD based Windows Surface Laptop 4 with 512GB SSD.

Even though it has a 512GB SDD as confirmed by both disk management and file explorer, settings -> system -> Storage reports the size as 951GB! I have searched but struggling to discover how to get it to report the real size.

Per the image below it shows

• 553GB used - bigger than the size of the SDD
  519GB in system & reserved

System and reserved breaks down per this screenshot




Have tried various options including disk cleanup, SFC and DSIM to get it to report the correct size but to no avail. Any suggestions on how to correct this much appreciated?

First of all nice utility, Mindweaver!
Second of all, it's so nice to see that this section ain't dead.

I have a few questions/suggestions, maybe you'd want to see ...

• maybe you rename Get Folder button caption to something more intuitive? Add Folder, Get Folder Size, Check Folder Size or something like that?
  
• Could you add subfolder files to the right pane? (it can be a tickbox with include sub dirs)
  
• maybe you also add export list to excel?
  
• there's delete file button maybe you add delete folder button too?
  
• and finally maybe you can add UP button for directories?
