  1. 2 in 1 laptop stuck in tablet mode after recent Windows update

    Every time I have updated to the most recent Windows 11 update, my laptop has been stuck in tablet mode. I have rolled it back every time so the problem would disappear, but I recently reset my laptop completely including removing all files and settings and cannot roll it back to that previous version anymore. I think it began after an update in January, but having lost my update history I don't know the exact date, version of Windows it was, or the previous one I had. What I mean by "tablet mode": The taskbar is optimised for touch when "Optimise taskbar for touch interactions when this d

  3. My laptop is neither touchscreen nor a 2-in-1, yet is stuck in tablet mode

    My laptop Dell G15 Special Edition 5521 is neither touchscreen nor a 2-in-1, yet is stuck in tablet mode and I cannot find a way to switch to desktop mode.

    I can see that tablet mode is on because the taskbar is optimised for touch interactions and item check boxes are automatically shown in File explorer even though they are disabled in the settings.

    Anything related to tablet mode, like locking screen rotation, is not even displayed in the settings and rightly so, as the laptop does not support it.

    I have already tried different ways to solve the problem, all of which have failed so far:

    - update Windows 11 and drivers;

    - modify Registry keys (“DeviceConvertible”, “SignInMode”, “TabletMode”);

    - uncheck “Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet” in the settings;

    - flip the screen orientation in the settings;

    - forced shut down by pressing the power button for 30 s;

    - power drain.

    I suspect it could be some drivers incompatibility issue.

    switching from tablet mode to laptop mode

    Hi,

    The concern you have encountered may be due to a corrupted file or a misconfigured setting. Windows 10's Tablet Mode provides a more touch-friendly experience by making all applications run at full screen and giving you a Start screen instead of a Start Menu.
    If you have a 2-in-1 device, Windows 10 asks you if you want to enter tablet mode every time you convert your notebook into a slate. Kindly follow the steps below to sort out the concern:

    • Click Settings from the Start menu
    • Click System, then select Tablet Mode in the left panel. A tablet mode submenu appear
    • Toggle "Make Windows more touch-friendly . . ." to on to enable Tablet mode. Or off to go to desktop mode
    • Configure the "When this device automatically switches" menu to let Windows 10 to switch modes on your 2-in-1 prompt or not prompt you.

    Should you have further concerns, feel free to post.

    Regards.
