  2. Grey x on dropbox files

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

The issue you're experiencing with Dropbox files appearing with a grey X and the error code '0x80070780: The files cannot be accessed by the system' suggests that there may be a problem with file permissions or syncing on your Windows 10 system. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Restart Dropbox: First, try restarting the Dropbox application on your Windows 10 computer. Right-click on the Dropbox icon in the system tray (near the clock) and select "Exit" or "Quit." Then relaunch Dropbox from your Start menu or desktop shortcut.
    2. Check File Permissions: Ensure that you have appropriate permissions to access and open the files in question. Right-click on one of the affected files, select "Properties," and navigate to the "Security" tab. Make sure your user account has permission to read and modify the file.
    3. Reinstall Dropbox: If restarting doesn't help, consider reinstalling Dropbox on your Windows 10 computer:
      • Uninstall Dropbox by going to "Control Panel" > "Programs" > "Uninstall a program," selecting Dropbox, and clicking "Uninstall."
      • Download the latest version of Dropbox from their official website.
      • Install it following the prompts provided during installation.
      • Sign in to your Dropbox account when prompted.
    4. Reset File Associations: It's possible that file associations for MP3 files have become corrupted or misconfigured on your Windows 10 system, preventing them from opening properly.
      • Right-click on an MP3 file that is showing a grey X icon.
      • Select "Open With" > "Choose another app."
      • Choose an appropriate media player (e.g., Windows Media Player, VLC) from either the list of recommended apps or by browsing for it.
      • Checkmark "Always use this app to open .mp3 files."
      • Click "OK."
If none of these steps resolve the issue, I recommend reaching out to Dropbox support again for further assistance as they may have specific troubleshooting steps tailored for this particular issue.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you.

  3. Dropbox and Windows Explorer

For a while, I have had issues with windows explorer renaming files in my dropbox folders. There is a lag when I go to rename files. Many times if I restart explorer, it speeds up to only slow down. I have tried various things I have found on the net (need to look it up again to list).

I am wondering it if is with the overlay icons. I am not using onedrive. However, at this location in the registry, onedrive has many entries so all DB entries are not in the first 15.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers

Here is the list in my registry. Wondering if i should delete he onedrive entries.
