Windows 10: Taskbar icons are completely blank on windows 11

Hi there, I have a significant amount of taskbar icons missing on my taskbar and the apps in question all seem to be microsoft apps with the exception of arc browser. As you can see in the attached image, there are a number of blank icons, including MS Teams, windows terminal, notepad, MS Store and Arc Browser. I have tried a number of suggested fixes that I can find online but none of them work. I had this issue before and it got automatically fixed when I received the latest windows feature update. It then happened again when I connected my laptop to a dock which connects my laptop to 2 exte

Blank icons in taskbar on Windows 2016

For us to better assist you, we'd like to know the following:

• Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
• Click OK.

• Confirm the said application you're using so we could fully understand the cause of the issue.
• Were there any recent changes made prior to this issue?

Meanwhile, we suggest restarting the Explorer.exe on the Task Manager. This may help resolve the issue with blank icons on the Taskbar. Refer to the steps below:

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del, then select Task Manager.

2. On the Task Manager window, click on More Details at the bottom left if it doesn't shows the
Processes tab.

3. Scroll down the list of the Windows processes and locate Windows Explorer and right-click on it and select
Restart.

Note: The desktop icons and the Taskbar will refresh and will be gone for a moment after this process. It should reappear automatically.

Windows 11 taskbar icons not working

I appreciate your interest in Windows 11. I understand that Taskbar icons are not working after upgrading to Windows 11. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



However, please let us know:

1. What happens when you click on an icon on the Taskbar?
   
2. Do you receive any error message/code?
   
3. Does this issue occur with all the icons?
   

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to try re-registering the taskbar and see if that works. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Press Windows + X keys together and click on Windows PowerShell (Admin)
   
2. Now type in the following command and hit Enter: Get-AppXPackage -User ([System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity]::GetCurrent().Name) *ShellExperienceHost* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
   
3. Restart the PC once the command is complete.
   

If the issue persists, you can try creating a new user account and then see if you are able to access the icons on the Taskbar.

Corrupted system files or application may be one of the possible causes why some icons in your Taskbar is missing. To efficiently assist you, kindly answer the following questions:

• Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
• Does this happen only with the 3 apps you've mention or with other application also?
• Are you getting any error messages when you tried to click those apps with missing icons in your Taskbar?

scan for corruption and restore corrupted files/Windows corruptions error.
