Windows 10: we couldn't free up any disk space and cannot free up restore points

hi,I am just curious. Lately, when I go to the storage sense in Windows 11 to free up temporary files, it states many times: we couldn't free up any disk space, even though I installed few apps. Also, normally, when I installed apps, I am able to remove restore points, etc. under system protection when clicking on settings. Yet, there is nothing to remove. It is not possible that installing things but I cannot remove any temporary files. How does storage sense work?

Thank you. 1. 'Disk Space Usage' box clearly states "older restore points will be deleted to make room for new ones" but this is not happening. 2. Step 1 should have deleted all restore points but Step 2 suggests that it had found "older restore points". User settings are being ignored by Windows? Maybe a Windows 10 bug? Not a big problem. Just another annoyance. I'll just have to manually delete RPs from time to time I think.

Try this:

Before you get to that message, press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt.

Run diskpart.
At the diskpart prompt, run these commands:

list disk

At this point you should see the SSD as disk 0. If it has another disk number, use that number rather than "0" in the next command.

select disk 0
clean
exit (to exit from diskpart)
exit (to exit from the command prompt)





That should clear the contents of the disk. The entire disk space should then show up in Windows setup as "Unallocated Space" as in the screenshot below.

 

Restore points are using more space than is allocated?

Configure System Restore \ Configure 4% (9.50 GB) disk space is allocated for Restore Points but ‘Current Usage’ is 11.17 GB. See photo1. Step 1 - Clicked on ‘Delete’ for ‘Delete all restore points for this drive’. Step 2 - To check again I repeated step 1 and popup (photo 2) showed so clicked on ‘Yes’. Question 1 - Is this normal Windows 10 behaviour? Maybe Windows 10 putting security first and overriding user settings? Question 2 - Is my disk space setting too low at 4% (9.50 GB)?
