Windows 10: Can something be done to keep my desktop icons from rearranging like they use to before a...

I do not want to sort my desktop icons by Name, Size, Type, or Date Modified. I have auto arrange icons unchecked but they still move around. This is a huge problem for me and causes me hours of my time putting them back the way I need them. At one point they were even duplicating. and the print was unreadable, not English. I had a little help from Microsoft, not a solution but it gave me an idea as how to complete the fix. At present, they are arranged as I want them. but I have to be extremely careful when adding. new icons. I'm only looking for an answer without further explanation.

Icons rearrangement

Please try below steps and check if it helps to stop rearranging desktop icon automatically.

• Right click on desktop, click on View.
• Uncheck Auto arrange icons.

For issue related Start menu check if it has set for full screen try to Off it.

• Go to Settings.
• Click on Personalization.
• Click on Start, turn Off Use Start full screen.

My desktop icons move to a grid on the left for no reason

Hello,

If your icons are aligned to a grid, this means that the settings of your desktop are currently auto arranged and automatically aligned. Since you want to rearrange your desktop icons on however you like them, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Right-click at a blank area on your desktop.
• Hover on View.
• In the right pane, look for Auto arrange icons. If it's checked, make sure to uncheck it.
• Hover again on View.
• This time, look for Align icons to grid. If it's checked, make sure to uncheck it.

After doing these steps, you'll be able to rearrange all your desktop icons again on how you want it.
