Windows 10: Why is my pc creating copies of new files and folders?

One of the new folders I created for the semester has been copied? It is appearing in my 'documents' right beneath my original folder with the name "filename_1". I tried to delete it, the folders in it were empty, and then it popped back up right away. Now that I've started adding files the folders withing it, I've noticed even when I specifically move or add a file into MY folder, the _1 folder will end up with the files a little later and mine will be empty. Most recently I found that a downloaded file I moved to my folder as well as a separate document--again, my folder--were not only moved

You can't copy a folder, thats why it generates an exception (you are trying to copy a folder using a copy file function).
You probably need to list all the files inside that folder and copy one by one
