    Can't close the cover with external monitor


    I want to use my laptop with an external monitor, with an external wireless keyboard. When I connect my new windows 11 laptop to my external monitor, following choices in "display," the image does switch to the external, but when I close the cover, it still puts the laptop to sleep. How can I use the laptop with the monitor, and close the cover without putting the computer to sleep?

    Surface Pro 4 screen active when type cover closed and external monitor in use.

    I have a Surface Pro 4 with a Surface Dock. I have an external monitor plugged into the dock.

    When I turn on or restart the Surface Pro with the Type Cover closed, both the Surface display and the external monitor are activated. I then have to go into the Display settings to select "Show only on 2" to turn off the Surface display and achieve the
    correct resolution on the external monitor.

    Is there any way I can get the Surface to realise when the Type Cover is closed and only display on an external monitor?

    In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, we would need some information.

    1. What is the version and
      build of you operating system? In the Search box, type
      winver to get this info.
    2. May I know the Make and the model of the computer and external monitor?
    3. Are you aware of any changes made on your computer before this issue occurred?

    We also suggest following the steps below and check if it makes any difference.

    Since you are facing issue with the Secondary monitor, I would suggest you to
    Troubleshoot external monitor connections in Windows 10
    and check if it fixes the issue.

    Additionally refer this article on Second
    screen or Projector mode does not persist after you close and reopen a laptop lid    .
