Connecting with VPN but cannot access drives

We have users that work from home and some that travel. To connect to our Shared Servers, they join WiFi and then connect with VPN. Their computers show successful connections to WiFi and VPN. When they attempt to access any file on the Shared Drive, they receive an error. There seems to be two main errors that they will receive:1. An error occurred while reconnecting F: to <shared server>\Folder_Name. Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored.2. I am unable to connect to a VPN or access any VPN website

    Hi Jim,

I'm Amr, an Independent Microsoft Company advisor, and a fellow Microsoft customer.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you.

If you are unable to connect to a VPN or access any VPN website on your computer, but your VPN provider is working fine on your phone, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check your internet connection: Make sure that you have a stable and active internet connection on your computer. If your internet connection is weak or intermittent, it may affect your ability to connect to a VPN or access VPN websites.

    2. Disable firewalls or security software: Firewalls or security software on your computer may sometimes block VPN connections or access to VPN websites. Temporarily disable any firewalls or security software and try connecting to the VPN or accessing VPN websites again.

    3. Clear browser cache and cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can sometimes resolve website access issues. Go to your browser's settings and clear the cache and cookies, then try accessing VPN websites again.

    4. Try different VPN protocols or ports: VPNs use different protocols or ports for connection. Try changing the VPN protocol or port settings in your VPN client to see if it resolves the issue. For example, you can switch from OpenVPN to L2TP or SSTP, or try using a different port such as TCP port 443.

    5. Restart your computer and modem/router: Sometimes a simple restart of your computer and modem/router can fix connectivity issues. Try restarting both your computer and modem/router, then attempt to connect to the VPN or access VPN websites again.

    6. Contact your VPN provider: If you have tried the above steps and are still unable to connect to the VPN or access VPN websites, it's recommended to contact your VPN provider for support. They may have specific troubleshooting steps or suggestions for your situation.

    7. Check for any network or DNS issues: There might be some network or DNS issues that are preventing you from connecting to the VPN or accessing VPN websites. You can try using a different DNS server, such as Google DNS or OpenDNS, to see if it resolves the issue.

I hope this helps, please feel free to reply to this if you need any further Assistance.

This is a user-to-user support forum. We're users just like you helping other users to find solutions to their problems.

    Kindly
