Windows 10: HDR noet working in some games

HDR capability not detected by some games. Like games using the Frostbite engine.

The Xbox feature in Windows 11 will automatically enable HDR (provided you have a graphics card with minimum performance requirements). In fact, Battlefield 1 and 5 games support HDR, so if your PC has HDR enabled automatically, the game will be enabled by default.

Given your situation so far, I would suggest you check here to calibrate your monitor's HDR functionality and troubleshoote that aspect.

Then turn on the "Auto HDR" setting by following these steps:

1. Select the Start button, then enter settings.select Settings > System > Display.
   
2. If you have multiple displays, select your HDR-capable display at the top.
   
3. Turn on Use HDR, then select More options.
   
4. Turn on Auto HDR.
   
5. Go back to the game to see if HDR is enabled.
   

On the other hand, go to Start - Settings -Windows Update - Update History to see what updates have been installed recently and I can help you check the update history to see if any recent updates have reported issues with HDR.

HDR not working in some games, working in others

HDR does not work for those games in any scenario I've tried.

I have attempted to run the games with my other monitors physically unplugged, and they still don't allow me to use HDR. I'm using up-to-date DisplayPort cords when I run them on my two HDR monitors.

I also have an HDR-capable TV with which I use a somewhat new HDMI 2.0 cable to connect it to my PC, and even when I do that, HDR is still grayed out or unavailable in those games.

Nothing about the cables I use has changed since everything worked, and I still have one of the monitors that these games specifically worked fine with before it all stopped working.

I have tried to narrow down the causes as much as I can, but since I have gotten them to work with HDR with this setup, and setups like it, before about this time last year, I'm thinking it could be caused by a change in how HDR-capable displays are recognized in Windows itself, or it could be a change in AMD's drivers.

Theorizing aside, nothing I have tried works.

Sorry, this is a real headache. If we assume that HDR works fine on Windows, but not for some games, I'm guessing there might be compatibility issues with some game developers? Does your HDR also not work if you run these games on a single monitor?

These probably don't have much to do with the HDR settings, you also mentioned that this issue has appeared since the last few versions of Windows 10. But I recommend you to check your monitor and HdMi port. If you're using multiple HdR-enabled monitors to view or run games, try connecting your TV to your PC only and enabling HDR streaming for that monitor.
