Windows 10: What is Windows Default.wav?

I've been deeply troubled in attempting to decipher the purpose of this audio file. I assumed it would have been mapped to the "Default Beep" eventMost system sounds have just been replaced with Windows Background.wav and Windows Foreground.wav by 11 so I booted up a W7 VM to see what the legacy mapping was, and to my surprise I found the "Default Beep" sound, which I expected to be the home of Windows Default.wav, was actually mapped to... Windows Ding.wav? Ok, but what's Windows Default.wav for then? I didn't find any events mapped to it, I couldn't find anything online, I even looked back i

For now let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below steps.

  On the Windows search bar type default program and select
  Default Program.
  
• 
  Click on Default app and click on
  Choose default app by file type.
  
• 
  Locate for the .wav, click next to it and select
  Windows media player.

I'm not familiar with the syntax that you may be using, but does it include the executable name? If so, just replace the VLC executable with wmplayer.exe.

If the goal is to change the default player for .wav files, follow these steps:

1) Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose default app by file type
2) Locate .WAV in the list and select the app to be used to open this type of file by default.
