I lost 4 years worth of files due to deleting files from onedrive, because the UI made it...

Hey,I was trying to disable OneDrive since it's an annoying product, I decided to then delete all of the files, because the file directory made it seem like C:\User\user\Desktop and C:\User\user\Documents were not using OneCloud. I then promptly deleted everything in the OneDrive - Personal directory, as I thought theee were the cloud based files. I then lost everything. The deleted files were so big that they were permantly deleted and not even avaible to redownload through the online recycle bin.I haven't been backing up one OneCloud for ~6 months because the UI is horrible, it's spammy

    :)

  2. OneDrive just deleted a years worth of work because I unsynced a desktop folder.

    Hello SkeletonHands,
    I am Jaspreet Singh.
Onedrive uses cloud only data storage if the option called "files on demand" is turned on and if the files are in sync while this option is on and you suddenly turn sync off it can remove those files.
Please visit the locations listed in this link to check for the deleted files :https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/find...
If all the locations do not have the deleted data Click on "email the One drive support team" under the title "next steps" and check if they are able to recover the data.

OneDrive just deleted years of files!

Over the years I have built up a library or videos, pictures, work presentations, excel sheets, the list goes on.

The other day I wanted to share one of those files with a friend, so I thought why not use OneDrive. OneDrive instantly tried to sync my whole hard drive onto the cloud, I obviously didn't want this and so paused the sync.

I then opened up OneDrive and deleted the folders from OneDrive. Now the word 'folders' is very key here because that's all they were at this point, folders. No data had been synced across and no files were on the OneDrive. I did get a prompt saying are you sure you want to delete these folders as they won't be recoverable. Now to me, OneDrive and my personal hard drive are 2 separate things, you copy files from one place to another. WRONG! They are one and the same and even though they aren't the same because one had just folders in and the other had my files in it decided to delete EVERYTHING from my local hard drive!

NO RECOVERY... NO RECYLING BIN...NOTHING. I am devastated. I have tried 3rd party file recovery software and managed to get drips and drabs back but nothing compared the the years of work I've lost. The irony is that the recycling bin on OneDrive aloud me to recover the folders but none of the files, so I just have empty folders on my pc. It's a complete joke. I know, I know, I should of had a hard backup but really OneDrive, REALLY, just like that all gone!

If anyone has any back door ways of getting my files back or something I would be so grateful. And to anyone thinking of using OneDrive, don't bother. The most unintuitive, backwards Microsoft sludge I've ever used.

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

    • Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
    • Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
    • Click on Users, select your User name
    • Go to desktop folder
Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
