I moved an App from C drive to D drive and then I put in in C drive again using the option in "Apps and features" in windows settings; But there are still two EMPTY folders in the D drive named "program files" and "windows apps". it means that the App was installed in program files and windows apps folders in C drive and Windows made a copy of them in D drive to put the App files in there and now they're empty but they made the D drive ugly. How Do I Remove Them???

    :)

  2. Restore control of Program Files folder on D drive

    Hello,

I recently installed the Minecraft launcher and specified that minecraft should be installed on my D:\ drive.
On my D:\ drive, I had previously created a folder named "Program Files", and all of my programs are installed there. My understanding is that when a UWP app is installed to a directory other than the default, Windows will create a "Program Files" folder in that directory to install the app inside of. Because I already had a Program Files folder on my D:\ drive, Windows seems to have taken over that folder, removed my personal account AND Administrators from its permissions, and resets its permissions every time my computer restarts. I would upload screenshots, but this website isn't allowing me to. Here's a summary of the permissions instead.

    ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES:

    Full Control

    All RESTRICTED APPLICATION PACKAGES:

    CREATOR OWNER
    No permissions

    No permissions

    Administrators

As you can see, my personal account is not listed and Administrators have no control over this folder. Every time I restart my computer, I am forced to manually give Administrators and my personal account full control over this folder, subfolders, and files. No matter what I do, these permissions are reset and the Windows files return whenever the computer restarts. Since then, i have installed Minecraft to the C:\ drive, listed the C:\ drive as the default location for new apps, and deleted all Windows files in my D;\Program Files folder, but every time, it resets back to the state listed above. Please help me take back control of this folder, I have very important work inside of it and really don't want to do a clean install to regain access to the folder I created.

    Thank you,

    Decidua

  3. Switch C: drive with D: drive and move Program Files

Hi, CaptJDC. I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

It's not recommended to move the folders "Program Files", "Program Files(x86)", and "Program Data" to another drive, most programs use the C: as the default path to work properly. Changing these folders to another drive will make most of your software stop working.

The folders Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, and Videos you can move without problems.

Step 1: Create the folder on the drive D:

    1-Open the File Explorer

2-Click on "This PC" and open the "Local disk D:"

3-Create the folders Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, and Videos

Step 2: Move the folders to the new location

    1-Open the File Explorer

2-Right-click on the "Documents" folder and click on properties

    3-Click on the "Location" tab

4-Click on "Move..." and select the "Documents" folder on drive D and click on Ok

5-You will be asked if you want to move the files to the new location, click on "Yes" to confirm

6-Repeat this procedure for the other folders

To identify which files taking more space on your drive C:, you can an app called TreeSize Free from the Microsoft Store.

    https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/treesiz...

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

    What is "Program" in taskmanager

Exactly, er was no program.exe and the "open file location" was greyed out.
I was able to remove it with "Autoruns".
After that I scanned with malwarebytes, no big problems found.
